Kunqu Opera is one of China’s most ancient dramatic art forms. Over 500 years ago from its place of origin at Kunshan Mountain near Suzhou, it spread throughout the country. Gradually Kunqu beame recognized as a type of music for the imperial court. It has influenced nearly every kind of drama in China, including Peking Opera. Moreover, as a result of its beautiful songs, elegant style, poetic lyrics and entrancing costumes, Kunqu has been proclaimed a ‘Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity’ by UNESCO.
