The Game of Go
Guqin, Go, Calligraphy and Painting represent traditional “refined culture” in China, and also the personal talent and attainment goals of self-cultivation for ancient Chinese people. The integration of sound with colour and the combination of movement with stillness, as a whole, show the same spirit of traditional Chinese art: the integration of etiquette and art, the achievement of harmony through study, the focus on poetic charm and the carrying out of education through artistic activities. In fact, the four artistic forms refer not only to a musical instrument or artistic accomplishments, but also the essence of traditional philosophy and art in China, the spiritual companion of Chinese scholars in self-cultivation, the search for the closest of friends, the expression of one’s innermost feelings and the spiritual sustenance of ordinary Chinese people in cultivating their temperament and enhancing their moral integrity.
