Website Promoting Chinese Culture Launched

VANCOUVER – The Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Vancouver and Mainstream Broadcasting Corporation CHMB AM1320 announced the launch of Window to Chinese Culture website today.

Jointly presented by the Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Vancouver and CHMB AM1320, and supported by the Chinese Ministry of Culture and China National Tourism Administration, Window to Chinese Culture provides Canadians with comprehensive and easy-to-access multimedia information about Chinese culture, tourism and traditions.

The content is divided into three categories: culture, tourism and latest news.  Mainly presented in videos available in both English and Chinese, important components of Chinese culture such as literature, music, ethnic minorities, martial arts, visual arts and cuisine are examples of topics that will be featured in the culture section.  The travel section will highlight China’s tourist destinations in various cities, provinces and autonomous regions – from Beijing’s Forbidden City to the beautiful mountains in Guilin.

“CHMB has provided an excellent platform to promote Chinese culture to a diverse audience,” said Liu Fei, Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Vancouver.  “We hope that the website will further cultural exchange opportunities between China and Canada, and help boost the tourism industry in both countries.  Furthermore, the website will also provide information about upcoming Chinese cultural events and festivities in Vancouver so that Canadians alike can join us in celebrating Chinese culture.”

“We have been serving Greater Vancouver’s multicultural community for 39 years," said James Ho, Chair of CHMB AM1320. "We are very pleased to partner with the Chinese Consulate in Vancouver to present a website which will enable our audiences to learn all that Chinese culture has to offer.”

The launching ceremony was held this morning at the Chinese Consulate in Vancouver.  Federal Senior Regional Advisor of the Ministry of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Ronald Leung, BC Parliamentary Secretary for Asia-Pacific Richard Lee and Vancouver Deputy Mayor Kerry Jang provided congratulatory remarks and joined Chinese Consul General Liu Fei and CHMB Chair James Ho in a ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially kick off the launch.

Window to Chinese Culture can be accessed via www.am1320.com/chineseculture, or through CHMB’s website homepage at www.am1320.com.
