中國西北部的新疆維吾爾自治區地處古代絲綢之路的樞紐地段,東西方文明在此交流薈萃,形成了獨特的“古西域文化”。其中,集歌、舞、樂于一體的大型古典套曲“木卡姆”在漫長的傳承過程中成為人們抒發情懷,寄託情感的主要藝術形式,其篇幅之龐大、結構之嚴謹、節拍節奏之複雜、曲調變化之豐富在世界各國木卡姆音樂中堪稱翹楚。2005年,中國新疆維吾爾木卡姆藝術被聯合國教科文組織宣布為“人類口頭于非物質遺産代表作”。

The Art of Chinese Xinjiang Uygur Muqam

The Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, located in Northwest China, is a pivotal area on the ancient Silk Road. It used to be the place where Eastern and Western civilizations exchanged and converged, and therefore, the unique “Ancient Culture of Western Regions” came to be. The magnificent classic series “Mukamu” (Muqam), which integrate songs, dances and music, have become the main art from for the people to express their feelings and aspirations handed down over the ages. The features of large-scale coverage, rigorous composition, complex rhythm and beats as well as plentiful tune changes of Mukamu are rarely seen in other countries in the world. In 2005, Xinjiang Uygur Mukamu Art of China was named one of the “Masterpieces of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity” by UNESCO.
